NASA's Next Boss: The Musk Connection
Washington, D.C., USASaturday, April 26, 2025
Senator Maria Cantwell from Washington also asked about Isaacman's ties to Musk. Isaacman said his relationship with SpaceX is professional, not personal. He also said he has followed all the rules and disclosed his financial ties. He even refunded money paid to SpaceX for future missions. If he becomes NASA chief, he plans to step down from his company, Shift4 Payments, to avoid any conflicts.
The senators asked about other things too, like NASA's moon program and budget cuts. Isaacman didn't seem happy about the idea of cutting NASA's science budget by half. He said he hadn't been part of those discussions, but it didn't sound like a good idea to him.
Next up, the Commerce Committee will vote on whether to send Isaacman's nomination to the full Senate. This is a big step in the process of confirming him as NASA's new leader.
