Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, 75, recently underwent prostate surgery at Jerusalem's Hadassah Medical Center. The surgery, performed under full anesthesia, was prompted by an infection detected last week. Doctors removed his prostate, which was not cancerous, late Sunday. Netanyahu's office had announced that Justice Minister Yariv Levin would serve as acting prime minister during the procedure.
Netanyahu has faced various health issues in recent years. Last year, he was fitted with a pacemaker after a fainting spell revealed a long-standing heart condition. Additionally, he was hospitalized for dehydration and underwent hernia surgery this year.
Despite these health challenges, Netanyahu has maintained a public image of being energetic and healthy. During his trial this month, he mentioned working 18-hour days.
The prostate surgery was expected to be a quick recovery procedure. The operation typically lasts about an hour, and patients can return to normal activities within a few days, according to experts.
