Netflix Brings a Unique French Musical to the Oscars
Cannes, FranceMonday, October 7, 2024
Audiard, known for films like "A Prophet" and "Rust and Bone," adapted the screenplay from a chapter of Boris Razon's novel "Écoute." Initially, it was intended as an opera libretto. The film premiered at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival and bagged the Jury Prize, Soundtrack Award, and Best Actress Award. Notably, Karla Sofía Gascón could become the first openly trans actress to score an Oscar nomination.
Netflix is confident that "Emilia Pérez" will be a strong contender, especially at the 2025 Oscars. France has already submitted the film for Best International Feature Film, while Netflix is campaigning for several key categories, including Best Picture and Best Actress.
Catch "Emilia Pérez" in select theaters in the U.S. and Canada starting November 1, and then on Netflix from November 13.
