Netflix Plans New 'Pride and Prejudice' Series

Netflix is cooking up a fresh TV adaptation of Jane Austen's classic novel, "Pride and Prejudice." Dolly Alderton, known for her work on "Everything I Know About Love," is penning the scripts. Though casting hasn't been finalized, the project is in development, but it's not a sure thing yet. If this adaptation gets the go-ahead, it will be Netflix's first Austen adaptation since "Persuasion" in 2022. "Pride and Prejudice" is a timeless love story that explores class differences. Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy's journey to love has been brought to life many times, including a popular film with Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen in 2005, and a BBC series ten years earlier with Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle.

Netflix recently added the Knightley movie to its library. Austen's novel is often found on best-of lists and has inspired memorable scenes, like Colin Firth's iconic lake scene in the BBC version. Right now, there's a trend of adapting classic novels. The BBC is working on a drama series based on Janice Hadlow's "The Other Bennet Sister," focusing on Mary Bennet. Additionally, Emerald Fennell is directing a big-budget retelling of "Wuthering Heights," starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi. Netflix hasn't commented on the project, and the Daily Mail first reported the news.
