New AI‑Powered Payment System Debuts on Tempo Blockchain
Tempo, a crypto company backed by Stripe, has launched its own blockchain and an AI‑driven payment protocol that can work across different blockchains. The network began in a testing stage for about three and a half months before going live on Wednesday.
The team says the idea of “agentic payments” is still very early, but they have built a simple and efficient framework that anyone can use without asking permission. Agentic payments let autonomous AI agents send money for people, and experts imagine these bots buying news, products or data online.
Tempo raised $500 million in 2025 at a $5 billion valuation, attracting investors like Thrive Capital. Its blockchain focuses on quick transfers and stablecoins—cryptocurrencies linked to real‑world currencies such as the U.S. dollar.
Other players are also entering the space. Coinbase has created a network called x402, referencing an old internet error code that means “Payment Required.” Google announced a new payment system in September that supports both credit cards and stablecoins.
These developments show how the fintech world is experimenting with AI agents that can manage money automatically, opening new possibilities for digital commerce.
