New Dawn at Sony Pictures: Ravi Ahuja Takes the Reins

The news sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry: Tony Vinciquerra, CEO of Sony Pictures Entertainment, is stepping down from his role, effective January 2, 2025. Taking his place is Ravi Ahuja, who will become the new President and CEO of SPE. Ahuja, who has been serving as Chairman of Global Television Studios and President and COO of SPE, will report to Sony Group Corporation Chairman and CEO Kenichiro Yoshida and President, COO, and CFO Hiroki Totoki. As Vinciquerra begins his new role as non-executive Chairman, he has nothing but praise for his successor. "Ravi has very good EQ and IQ. He's much smarter than I am. And much better with people than I am," he says. The two have a long history, with Vinciquerra having hired Ahuja as CFO at Fox Networks Group back in 2007. Ahuja has been instrumental in Sony's recent successes, overseeing the acquisition of anime content brand Crunchyroll and hammering out a lucrative deal with Netflix.

Ahuja's path to the top began at Walt Disney Television, where he was President of Business Operations and CFO. He then moved to Fox Networks as CFO before joining Virgin Entertainment Group, Inc. Prior to joining Virgin, he worked in investment banking and was a consultant at McKinsey & Company. As Sony Pictures Entertainment prepares for a new era under Ahuja's leadership, the company's focus remains ongenre-based streaming and producing high-quality content for both linear and direct-to-streaming titles. Ahuja has expressed his excitement about the opportunities ahead and his gratitude for Vinciquerra's mentorship.
