New Faces, New Grants and a Fresh Path to Learning
Dustin Boswell has been named the new Treasurer for Tallmadge City Schools, succeeding long‑time incumbent Jeff Hostetler.
Boswell brings over twenty years of experience from the Springfield Local School District, where he began as a technology director and transitioned into business management in 2015. His expertise spans finance, operations, and strategic planning—skills that earned him the 2025 Northeast Region Outstanding Administrator award from the Ohio School Boards Association.
The Tallmadge Board praised Boswell’s transparency and teamwork, noting he is well positioned to address the district’s financial challenges.
Summit County Retired Teachers Association Boosts Education Funding
The Summit County Retired Teachers Association distributed $13,500 in scholarships and grants:
- Five students studying education received $1,500 each. Recipients hail from schools such as Archbishop Hoban, Hudson, and Springfield.
- Twenty teachers across local districts were awarded $300 grants for classroom supplies—manipulatives, microscopes, robotics kits, and more.

Kim Hussing Honored as Assistant Principal of the Year
Kim Hussing, assistant principal at Tallmadge Middle School, earned the title of Assistant Principal of the Year from the Ohio Association of Secondary School Administrators. She was recognized for her leadership in positive behavior programs and creating a supportive environment for students and staff. Hussing is one of ten regional winners being considered for statewide recognition.
Ohio Digital Learning School Expands Age Range
Ohio’s Digital Learning Initiative now accepts students as young as 14. The virtual public school focuses on credit recovery and aims to engage learners earlier in their academic journey, providing additional support to keep them on track for graduation. University of Akron Names New Dean of Buchtel College
The University of Akron announced that Peter Q. Pfordresher will serve as the new dean of Buchtel College of Arts and Sciences, effective July 31. Pfordresher previously held leadership positions at the University at Buffalo and is a noted music cognition researcher. His responsibilities include boosting enrollment, improving graduation rates, strengthening faculty and community ties, and expanding international partnerships.
