New Funding Boosts Alabama State University’s Teaching and Research

Montgomery, Alabama, USAWednesday, July 8, 2026
Alabama State University is set to grow its education program thanks to a fresh $1. 2 million investment. The money comes from the university’s own Foundation and a national group that works with historically Black colleges, aiming to improve open conversation and democratic skills across campuses. The partnership is a big step for academic quality and future discussions on campus. Leaders say the plan will open doors for better teaching, stronger research projects, and richer student life over many years.
The national group will give $1. 2 million in four years. Part of that, $800, 000, will fund new named professor positions. A further $200, 000 will help graduate students with assistantships, while another $200, 000 covers travel, research and other learning events. The university’s Foundation adds the last $200, 000 to support an endowment and yearly teacher stipends. The program also offers college‑prep courses to rural high school students through the national initiative, helping more people reach higher education. With these funds, Alabama State University can strengthen its teaching staff and research output while encouraging thoughtful dialogue among students and faculty alike.
