A Winter Storm Warning is in Effect for Parts of the State

New Jersey is set to experience its first widespread snowfall of the season this weekend. A winter storm will blanket the state with 2 to 5 inches of snow, starting Saturday evening and lasting until Sunday. Some areas, particularly near I-95 and southern parts, could see more than 5 inches.

Winter Storm Warning Issued

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for:

  • Camden County
  • Gloucester County
  • Northwestern Burlington County

These areas are expected to receive 3 to 5 inches or more. The rest of the state is under winter weather advisories, meaning lighter snowfall but still enough to cause travel disruptions.

Timing and Intensity

  • Saturday Evening: Snow will begin in western New Jersey, possibly starting as rain or a mix before turning to all snow as temperatures drop.
  • Midnight: Areas near and northwest of I-95 will see only snow.
  • Early Sunday Morning: The heaviest snowfall is expected, with up to 1 inch per hour in central and southern New Jersey.

Travel Hazards and Cold Temperatures

  • Dangerous Travel Conditions: The heavy snow, though short-lived, will make roads treacherous.
  • Sunday Afternoon: Snowfall will decrease from west to east, but temperatures will remain very cold.
  • Southeast: Highs in the low 30s
  • Northwest of I-95: Highs in the 20s
  • Winds: Gusts of 25 to 35 mph will make it feel like single digits to low teens by sunset.
  • Blowing Snow: Possible in some areas.

Coldest Night of the Season

  • Sunday Night into Monday Morning: Temperatures will drop to the lower to mid teens, with wind chills from zero to 5 degrees.
  • Winds: Continue to gust up to 35 mph.
