New Tech Helps Keep Morgan County Schools Safe
Morgan County, Alabama, USAFriday, March 20, 2026
Five high schools are the first to deploy the Xtract One Gateway, a seamless, AI‑driven system that scans for weapons as students walk through doors.
How It Works
- Hands‑free passage: Students and visitors pass through without stopping.
- Automatic detection: The machine scans for dangerous items in real time.
- Smart AI: Quickly identifies weapons while maintaining a smooth flow.
Why This System?
- Friendly feel: Designed to be welcoming, not intimidating.
- Learning focus: Keeps classrooms as places of education, not security checkpoints.
- Community confidence: Gives families, teachers, and staff assurance that safety is taken seriously without creating a “police station” vibe.
“The main goal is to protect everyone while keeping schools welcoming,” said Superintendent Tracie Turrentine.
Expansion Plan
- Initial rollout: Brewer, Falkville, Priceville, West Morgan, Danville.
- Future rollout: All 18 public schools in Morgan County will receive the same system, ensuring uniform protection.
- Long‑term vision: Early adoption eases future upgrades and keeps the community safer.
A Positive, Student‑Focused Approach
The district demonstrates that technology can support learning environments while balancing safety with everyday life. Classrooms remain places of growth, not just surveillance.
