New York City, USASunday, January 18, 2026

A Light Dusting on Saturday

New York City experienced a light dusting of snow on Saturday. Some areas might see up to an inch of snow before it clears up later in the day. But this is just the beginning.

A Bigger Storm on Sunday

A more significant storm is expected to arrive on Sunday afternoon. This storm could drop up to 4 inches of snow across the city. Temperatures will also drop, making the snow even more treacherous.

City Preparations

The city is taking steps to prepare:

  • Winter Weather Emergency Plan is now in effect.
  • A travel advisory is in place for Sunday.
  • Residents are urged to plan ahead and avoid unnecessary travel.

Road and Bridge Treatments

  • Roads and bridges are being pre-treated with salt.
  • The city has 700 salt spreaders working around the clock.
  • Plows are also ready to go if the snow piles up.

Code Blue Weather Alert

A Code Blue weather alert is already in effect:

  • Started at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
  • Will last until 8 a.m. on Sunday.
  • Outreach teams are helping homeless residents find shelter.
  • If you see someone in need, you can call 311 for help.

Colder Weather Ahead

After Sunday, things are expected to get even colder. Some of the coldest air of the season is likely to arrive on Monday and Tuesday. So, it's a good idea to stay warm and be prepared.
