New York's Population Dip: What's Behind the Exodus?

New York state has seen a significant drop in population, with nearly 1% of its residents moving out in 2023. That's around 180, 000 people leaving, making it the state with the most outmigration this year. While this number is lower than 2022's 244, 000, it shows the ongoing trend of people moving away. What's causing this exodus? Crime is a big factor. Despite efforts to hide the real numbers, crime in New York remains high. For example, Monique Fort, who had 14 prior arrests, robbed a child and assaulted his mother in The Bronx. A judge let her go, which could lead to more serious crimes. The migrant crisis is another key issue. Hundreds of thousands of migrants have entered the state due to the border policies by the Harris-Biden administration. This has created social and fiscal problems, but the state government isn't taking meaningful action. Instead, lawmakers like Shaun Abreu are focusing on silly bills, like giving time off for pet bereavement. Meanwhile, politicians are showing open contempt for public needs. They're waging a war on cars but are caught breaking traffic rules themselves. Emily Gallagher, a socialist assembly member, is one such example. New Yorkers are not happy with this situation. They're voting with their feet and leaving the state.
