The local paper, Coeur d'Alene Press, sent a stern warning to a political group last Thursday. The issue? A flyer that was mailed out to people in the area, supporting a proposal called Proposition 1, had the paper's logo on it. This caused some confusion, making it seem like the paper was behind the flyer.
Clint Schroeder, who's in charge of Hagadone Media, which owns the Press, made it clear: The Press doesn't support political groups or try to sway voters. "This is a serious matter, " he said. "We won't send or create materials that support or oppose any issue. Our job is to give balanced and fair news. "
The political group, Idahoans for Open Primaries, said the flyer had a note that said they paid for it. Luke Mayville, from the group, explained that when someone supports their cause, they often show that support. The Press had endorsed Proposition 1 in an editorial on October 13. Mayville also mentioned they won't send out more flyers with the Press's logo.
