North Korea Destroys Old Roads, Tensions Rise

In a surprising move, North Korea blew up parts of old inter-Korean roads that weren't being used. This happened as tensions between North and South Korea were rising. The South Korean military said they're keeping a close eye on things, but didn't give many details. The day before, North Korea's leader Kim Jong Un had a meeting with his top military and security officials. He said that South Korea flying drones over Pyongyang was a serious problem. He asked for quick military action and to use the country's defense methods to protect their country. North Korea had already put some of their army units on standby. They said they would attack South Korea if their drones were seen again. South Korea didn't say if they sent drones, but warned they would punish North Korea if their citizens were in danger.

Kim Jong Un wants to cut ties with South Korea and make it their enemy. This is a big change from their old goal of peacefully uniting the two Koreas. In the 2000s, the two countries had reconnected some roads and train tracks. But these stopped working because they couldn't agree on North Korea's nuclear program and other issues. Recently, North Korea said they would close their border with South Korea and build defenses. South Korean officials said North Korea has been adding anti-tank barriers and mines along the border since the start of the year. They also removed lights from the roads and took out parts of the train tracks.
