Nvidia Hints at Plans for Home-Grown Desktop CPU

Nvidia might be taking a leap into the world of desktop CPUs. At CES this year, they showed off Project Digits, a pricy AI supercomputer powered by a new GB10 Grace Blackwell Superchip with an Arm-based CPU. This chip was developed jointly with MediaTek, and it seems both companies have big plans for it. Nvidia's CEO, Jensen Huang, dropped a hint that there's more in store for this processor. But MediaTek could also make a move independently, creating a win-win scenario.

Project Digits isn't aimed at the average consumer, costing $3, 000 and running a custom Linux system for AI development. Rumors of Nvidia entering the consumer CPU market have been around since October 2023, with plans to launch Arm-based chips in 2025. The market is currently led by Qualcomm with Snapdragon X Elite processors, providing excellent performance and pushing Intel and AMD to up their game.
