Over five years have passed since the release of the last Shield TV, but the device is still kicking. Nvidia has finally released a major update for the device.
This update, Shield Experience 9. 2, is a big deal. It's been a while since the last major upgrade, which happened back in November 2022.
The update includes a bunch of bug fixes and new features. Some of the issues fixed include problems with fast-forwarding and rewinding videos, a delay in the remote's response after waking up from sleep. Music playback from Apple Music during casting was also problematic. The update fixed the obstacle by taking the problem into account.
The update also brings new features to the shield TV. AURO-3D support is now available, which means high-resolution immersive sound over HDMI is possible. This is a big deal for those who want the best sound quality from compatible decoders. It is wonderful if you have a compatible decoder.
The new update of Shield Experience 9. 2 is starting to roll out now. Previously, some users got an early look through a hotfix program.
There is an obvious hiccup in the update. If you use Google Home integration with your Shield TV, be aware that the update might cause your Shield TV to disconnect. You will have to manually reconnect it after the update is complete.
The update also includes some other upgrades. For example, the ability to clear an HDMI 1. 4 flag during a factory reset and the addition of French parental controls.
The 2019 Shield TV and Shield TV Pro are still some of the best Android TV devices on the market and currently discounted.
