Oregon State University (OSU) has decided to cut ties with Blueprint Sports, ending their Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) management deal. This decision came after some controversy and a lot of questions from fans and media. The deal, which was supposed to last until 2026, is now over as of December 8th.
Financial Implications
- OSU will not pay any more money to Blueprint Sports.
- Blueprint will keep the $280,000 fee that OSU already paid for the 2025-2026 contract year.
- Within 30 days, Blueprint must give OSU all the net proceeds from NIL activities under the contract.
- This money will go into OSU Athletics' revenue-sharing account to help Beaver student-athletes.
Dam Nation's Role
- Dam Nation, a group that was part of the deal, will no longer be connected to OSU.
- All donations made to Dam Nation under Blueprint's control must be returned to OSU.
- Kyle Bjornstad, who co-founded Dam Nation, has refiled the LLC's annual report to keep the name active, but it's unclear what he plans to do with it now.
Supporting OSU Athletes
Fans can still support OSU athletes through:
- Woodshop Exchange
- Our Beaver Nation
OSU Athletics plans to keep working on revenue-sharing and NIL efforts. They might introduce a new membership option for fans in the coming months.
NIL and Revenue Sharing
- NIL deals are just one way to compensate student-athletes.
- Revenue sharing, which OSU can raise up to a $20.5 million cap, is a much bigger source of funds.
- However, OSU's specific plans for allocating athlete payments across different sports are not yet public.
New Hire
OSU is bringing in Eron Hodges, a former Alabama assistant director, to manage NIL deals and recruiting for football. His exact title and responsibilities are still unknown.
