In the suburbs of Illinois, John Hersey High School has etched its name in the annals of educational excellence. For the second time in its history, this remarkable institution has been bestowed the National Blue Ribbon School award by the U.S. Department of Education. This prestigious recognition isn't just a testament to the school's academic prowess, but also its unwavering commitment to bridging the achievement gap.
The journey to this coveted honor involved a tremendous amount of hard work and dedication from the educators, students, and the wider community. According to Dr. Scott Rowe, District 214 Superintendent, "Receiving the National Blue Ribbon designation is a culmination of the tireless efforts of our educators, the unyielding resilience of our students, and the support of our community."
John Hersey High School is no stranger to excellence, having won the award previously in the 1988-1989 academic year. This time around, it joins a select group of 356 schools recognized by U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona for their outstanding achievements.
The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program acknowledges public and private elementary, middle, and high schools that excel in academics and demonstrate a dedication to supporting students from all backgrounds. As Township High School District 214 proudly states, "John Hersey High School has consistently set the bar high, providing a nurturing environment that fosters both academic achievements and personal growth."
The fact that Hersey High School has maintained its standards of excellence over the years is a testament to its commitment to empowering students to reach their full potential. Last year, Prospect High School, also part of District 214, received the same honor, further emphasizing the district's unwavering focus on education.
