Patriots Choose Vrabel: A Familiar Face Takes the Helm
FOXBOROUGH, USAMonday, January 13, 2025
Vrabel, now 49, is known for his ability to connect with players, much like Mayo. However, Mayo, who was an assistant under Bill Belichick, struggled with his rookie quarterback and a young team. Kraft admitted that Mayo wasn't quite ready for the head coach role.
Vrabel, on the other hand, brings a solid record of 56-48 with Tennessee, including a playoff record of 2-3 and an AFC championship game appearance in 2019. He also had a consulting role with Cleveland this past season, which has now ended, allowing him to explore other opportunities. He was also in the running for the New York Jets and Chicago Bears coaching jobs.
Now, Vrabel is back where he started, ready to rebuild the franchise he knows so well.
