Peru's President in Hot Water Over Hidden Talks
Peru has seen its fair share of political drama. In the last ten years, the country has had seven different presidents, with none lasting more than three years in office. The latest president, José Jerí, who took over last October after his predecessor was impeached, might be next in line to leave.
Secret Recordings Cause Stir
Recently, secret recordings have caused quite a stir. In one video from December 26, Jerí is seen arriving at a restaurant owned by a Chinese businessman, Yang Zhihua. Jerí tries to hide his face with his hoodie, which raises eyebrows. Zhihua has been under government scrutiny, making this meeting look suspicious.
Suspicious Encounters
Another video shows Jerí in one of Zhihua's convenience stores in Lima. He is seen arguing on the phone in front of Zhihua. Local news reported that the store was supposed to be closed for breaking city rules. But just three days later, a higher-up government body canceled the order to close it.
A History of Instability
This isn't the first time a Peruvian president has been caught in a scandal. The country has a history of political instability and corruption. Jerí's actions, especially the secret meetings and the sudden change in the store's closure order, have people questioning his integrity.
