Andrew Painter to Make MLB Debut with Phillies

Andrew Painter, a 23‑year‑old pitcher from Pompano Beach, Florida, is set to make his MLB debut for the Philadelphia Phillies. He has spent most of his life on the mound, starting in high school at Calvary Christian Academy. His performance there earned him a spot on the USA Baseball 15U National Team, where he won gold in Panama and earned All‑World honors.

After high school, Painter was offered a scholarship to play for the University of Florida. He chose instead to enter the 2021 MLB draft, where the Phillies selected him with the 13th overall pick. He began his professional career in the minor leagues, pitching for teams such as the Florida Complex League Phillies, Clearwater Threshers, Jersey Shore BlueClaws, and Reading Fightin Phils.

Painter recently returned from Tommy John surgery. His spring training stats—an ERA of 2.31 over 11.2 innings with 8 strikeouts in four starts—show he is ready to contribute at the highest level. The Phillies hope he can help lift the team from last place in the NL East after a heavy 13‑2 loss to the Washington Nationals.

He was born on April 10, 2003, and his parents are Pete and Leslie Painter. While his ethnic background is white American, he attended a Christian school, though his personal faith remains private.

His debut will be against the Nationals on Tuesday. If he performs as well in spring training, the Phillies may see him as a key piece to turn their season around.
