Phoenix's Wild Weather: Wind, Chill, and a Warm-Up
January 11: A Windy Start
On Jan. 11, Phoenix experienced a mix of strong winds and cool temperatures. The winds were particularly powerful in the higher areas east of the city, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a wind advisory for these regions. Gusts were expected to reach up to 50 mph.
In the city itself, winds blew between 20 to 35 mph, making driving tricky, especially for larger vehicles. Residents were advised to secure outdoor items to prevent them from blowing away.
A Chilly Morning with a Warm Afternoon
The day started off chilly, but temperatures rose by afternoon. Highs reached the mid-60s in the lower deserts, while higher areas remained cooler. This was a welcome change from Jan. 10, which had been the coldest day of the winter so far.
A Warmer Week Ahead
The week ahead promised warmer days. By midweek, temperatures could hit the low to mid-70s. By the end of the week, some desert areas might even reach near 80 degrees. Overnight lows would also get warmer, starting in the 40s and climbing to near 50 degrees by Friday.
Dry and Clear Conditions
Despite the wind and chill, the weather remained dry and clear. No rain was expected, which is typical for Phoenix in January. The warm-up was a relief after the cold start to the week.
