Player Fears for Safety After World Cup Exit

Argentina, RosarioSunday, July 12, 2026

A Colombian striker, Jáminton Campaz, has gone into hiding following the national team’s elimination from the World Cup. After missing a clear chance in extra time against Switzerland, he received online threats that forced him to skip the flight back home.

Campaz posted a calm message on Instagram, urging fans not to let anger turn into hate or fear. He reminded everyone that love for the game should unite, not divide.

He spoke of his childhood dream to wear Colombia’s jersey on the world stage and how proud he felt when that dream came true. He thanked supporters for their belief in him, even though the team fell short of advancing further.

The Colombian Football Federation condemned the threats and called for an investigation, stating that football should never become a place of intimidation. The incident also reminded many of the tragic death of defender Andrés Escobar in 1994, after he scored an own goal.

Many social media users condemned the violence, saying no player should fear for his life over a mistake on the field. They called for respect and safety for all athletes.
