PlayStation and PC: Why Some Games Stay Exclusive
Saturday, June 20, 2026
The debate highlights a bigger question: Are PC ports worth the effort? Sony seems to think not. Development costs rise when games have to run on multiple systems, and delays between console and PC releases suggest the company isn’t prioritizing the latter. Some gamers still enjoy these ports, but sales numbers tell a different story. Meanwhile, other companies like Capcom have no trouble selling their games on PC from day one. Unlike Sony, they don’t face the same challenges with profitability.
Rockstar’s decision to postpone GTA VI’s PC release fits into this pattern. Big-budget games demand careful planning, and rushing a PC version could backfire. Sony’s past strategy—releasing PC ports months or even years after the console version—might have hurt enthusiasm for those versions. If fans lose interest waiting, sales suffer. Other developers prove that same-day PC releases can work, but Sony’s focus seems to be on keeping its exclusives just that: exclusive.
