Australia, SydneyTuesday, January 21, 2025
The New South Wales police have formed Strike Force Pearl to investigate these hate crimes. They plan to increase resources after this latest incident. The police commissioner, Peter Thurtell, emphasized the importance of identifying and arresting these criminals to keep society safe. The state premier, Chris Minns, also expressed concern and assured that suspects are being brought to justice. So far, nine people have been arrested for recent attacks in Sydney.
One suspect, Tammie Farrugia, was arrested and charged for her involvement in an attack in Woollahra, a Jewish neighborhood. She appeared in court but didn’t enter a plea. The police have been actively working to ensure community safety, with Operation Shelter resulting in over 180 arrests since the Israel-Hamas war. Around 117, 000 Jewish people live in Australia, making up about 0. 46% of the total population.
