Police Chief Apologizes After Victim Shot by Neighbor

On a recent Sunday, Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara offered an apology to a man who had been shot by his neighbor. The victim, Davis Moturi, had been experiencing harassment and threats from his neighbor for over a year. Despite Moturi reporting these incidents to the police multiple times, they didn't act fast enough to prevent the shooting. The neighbor, John Herbert Sawchak, now faces serious charges including attempted murder and harassment. Sawchak, who is 54 years old, has a warrant out for his arrest. The police were filmed serving this warrant at Sawchak’s residence on Sunday night. They tried to handle the situation peacefully by communicating through an intercom before taking further action.

Chief O’Hara admitted during a press conference that the police failed Moturi. He said, “The Minneapolis Police Department should have done more to prevent this shooting. I am truly sorry for what happened to you. ” However, Moturi was not satisfied with the apology. He felt the police hadn't done enough to protect him and that he had reached out for help multiple times without getting a proper response. Moturi had installed a security camera at his home to document the escalating threats. Video footage from Wednesday evening shows him pruning a tree near the property line before suddenly collapsing backwards to the ground after a gunshot. Moturi was later released from the hospital but expressed fear about returning home while Sawchak is still at large.
