Portable Projector That Skips Walls and Sits Anywhere

USASaturday, July 18, 2026
Samsung has introduced a new projector that feels more like a gadget than a home theater. The Freestyle+ weighs less than a bag of books and can be plugged in or run from a battery, making it easy to move around. It shines up to 100 inches on almost any surface and costs just under a thousand dollars. The device is built around a DLP chip that delivers 1080‑p picture quality and up to 430 lumens of light. While this brightness is lower than some budget models, the projector’s smart features try to make up for it. It can automatically adjust its image shape so that the picture looks right even on uneven walls or curved surfaces. That trick, called keystone correction, is powered by artificial intelligence.
Another AI tool lets the projector detect a chair or table in front of it and shift the image to avoid blocking. It doesn’t bend light, but it can move the screen area so that nothing gets in the way. The unit also supports HDR10+ for richer colors and 360‑degree sound, so the viewing experience feels immersive. Samsung’s marketing says this model is all about “point‑and‑play” freedom. The goal is to let people set it up anywhere and have the projector automatically tune itself to room lighting, wall texture, and obstacles. The hope is that users can enjoy a movie on a couch or in a backyard without fiddling with cables. The projector is sold online for about $1, 200. Prices may fall over time, but the current cost reflects the advanced technology it packs. The company claims that the AI features will reduce setup time, but real‑world tests are still needed to confirm how well it works in different environments.
