This Saturday, Portland will once again welcome one of its most cherished family events—the Junior Parade—now shifted to the weekend to attract even larger crowds. Departing from its traditional midweek slot during the school year, the parade kicks off at noon on Saturday, giving families the perfect opportunity to participate without the weekday rush.

A Vibrant Route Through the Heart of the City

The procession will wind through Sandy Boulevard, turning onto 40th Avenue, before concluding near Grant High School. Expect a dazzling showcase of marching bands, elaborately decorated floats, and energetic youth groups displaying their talents in a celebration of community spirit.

Walk-Ons Welcome—Last-Minute Participants Can Still Join

While official entries have closed, latecomers can still register as walk-ons near the starting line. For those preferring to enjoy the festivities from the comfort of home, the parade will be live-streamed on KATU’s website and channel 2 at noon.

The Junior Parade traces its origins back to 1918, when Portland’s youth took the initiative to keep the fun alive during World War I. By 1936, it officially became part of the Rose Festival, solidifying its place as a cornerstone of the city’s cultural celebrations.
