As we get older, our brains shrink, and our thinking skills deteriorate. Scientists have found a new way to study this process using brain age prediction. This study introduces a special deep learning model that can guess someone's age from brain scans. Researchers used data from almost 17, 000 healthy people between 45 and 82 years old from a UK database. They designed a new kind of deep learning system that combines two different methods to improve guessing accuracy. This system uses 3D images of the brain's gray matter and looks at tiny details and the whole picture at the same time. To check if their model worked, they tested it on 3, 276 people and found it could predict brain age with an error of only 2. 2 years. The model also let them understand which parts of the brain are most important for accurate age prediction. They discovered that the temporal lobe is the most critical, and aging in the frontal lobe is linked to many aspects of life. This new method offers both high accuracy and clear explanations of its decisions.
