President Biden Delays Trip Due to Hurricane Milton

President Joe Biden has had to put his trip to Germany and Angola on hold. Why? Because a big storm, Hurricane Milton, is headed for Florida. Originally, Biden was going to visit Berlin on Thursday and then travel to Angola in southern Africa. This would have been his first time visiting Africa as president. But now, he has to stay in the U.S. to keep an eye on the hurricane preparations and response. The White House said he still plans to visit these places before his term ends. Meteorologists and officials have been warning people in Florida to evacuate if they're in the hurricane's path. Former President Donald Trump has been criticizing Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris for not immediately checking out the damage from a previous hurricane, Helene. But Biden and Harris did visit affected areas a few days later, and they explained that they didn't want to disrupt rescue efforts.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has been helping out. Its leader, Deanne Criswell, said that Trump's claims about the agency's funds were false. The agency has enough resources for both Helene and the upcoming hurricane. Trump has been saying negative things about the current administration's response to hurricanes. He even said that FEMA has no money because it's being used for "illegal migrants," which isn't true. Trump has been confusing two different FEMA funds. Hurricane Milton is expected to hit the west coast of Florida. People there are still dealing with the damage from Hurricane Helene, which happened last month. Criswell will be in Florida to guide the disaster response. In Angola, Biden was going to meet with President João Lourenço to talk about climate, clean energy, and democracy. The visit was meant to show the U.S.'s commitment to African partners. The German government understands why the trip was delayed.
