The Republican Party finds itself in hot water over its strategy. What's the best path toward delivering on Trump's top priorities and winning the Senate. The end of the year taxes will require a resolution soon.
A divide exists between the House of Representatives and the Senate. To truly see the president's policy plan come to fruition, the House is pushing for one large bill that will cover a variety of key areas including immigration and energy. However, the Senate seems to be on a different track.
Arguably the main goal in this conflict is to successfully fund the immigration agenda.
The Senate has recently announced their own plans, that include two bills and around 300 billion dollars spent on military spending. This includes 150 billion in border security.
The House is stuck on a single bill that accounts for the expiration of tax cuts this year, along with a spending cut of 2/1 which could still be hard to accomplish. Several House representatives understand that the Senate is pushing for quicker action since they have a higher majority than the House. The conservative lawmakers are very insistent on steeper cuts to the spending of the budget.
A middle ground is desired. "We have to find that equity point and get this done. " --Mike Johnson
Presenting their findings to the White House was supposed to help Trump to make a decision on the matter. Unfortunately, the House has had to indefinitely postpone the budget markup to reach a consensus.
