Older adults and those with underlying health issues, like cancer patients, were considered at higher risk for severe illness and death. Immunodeficiency caused by cancer and its treatments also plays a role in these patients' outcomes. Although advanced cancer patients with metastases aren't typically good candidates for intensive care, their individual prognosis matters. We'll discuss a case of a prostate cancer patient (stage IV) who was infected with SARS-CoV-2, required ICU care, and recovered from COVID-19.

Aging and having other health conditions, common in cancer patients, put them at higher risk when COVID-19 hits. Cancer weakens the immune system, and treatments can add to that.
