Raising Voices: A Community Call for Safer Births

The event is part of a faith‑based nonprofit’s program that aims to close health gaps in underserved areas. Founded in 2008, the organization now works in Chicago, Atlanta and Los Angeles. Two sisters lead it after their mother’s passing earlier this year, keeping her mission alive through community events like the birth‑health panel.

One sister, who is pregnant herself, called the gathering a “full circle moment. ” She said carrying her mother’s torch means saving lives and helping neighbors. The other sister added a light‑hearted note, saying the work feels like family rooted in the community. Beyond birth education, the nonprofit has teamed with churches to host health fairs. These fairs offer screenings for HIV, blood pressure and mammograms. Since starting, the organization reports over 600 000 screenings, showing a real impact on community health.
