Carrie Soto Is Back is the fourth book in Reid's "famous women quartet." It explores the life, career, and relationships of one of the world's greatest sports stars. Carrie Soto is a fascinating study of determination and the incredible desire to be the best. While it's not inspired by any single tennis player, her character's struggles and achievements reflect elements of many great players.
Malibu Rising is a novel packed with emotion that explores themes of family loyalty and how parents can shape their child's life, even if they're not around. The story is about a family coming together, breaking apart, and the bonds, breakages, and odd beauty of tragedy. While a litany of side characters distracts from the main narrative, this is a small nitpick in an otherwise highly compelling story.
Daisy Jones & The Six is a real treat for music lovers and those with a fondness for historical fiction. It's a story about a fictional rock band that was loosely based on Fleetwood Mac and their emotion-fueled recording of the record Rumours. With Daisy Jones as an almost otherworldly figure of incredible talent, the only downside of reading this novel is wishing the group was real.
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is the culmination of all Reid's style had been building toward. It's an enthralling look at an aging Old Hollywood star recounting her seven marriages to a journalist. With strong characters, an engaging hook, and a narrative categorized by impeccable highs and heartbreaking lows, Reid had finally found her voice.
