Rapper DaBaby, also known as Baby, has been on a mission. His brother, Glenn Johnson, sadly took his own life in 2020, leaving behind three daughters. This tragedy sparked something in DaBaby. He wanted to make sure others didn't have to go through what his family did. So, he started DaBaby Cares, a mental health initiative.
Recently, DaBaby Cares partnered with Mental Health America of Central Carolinas (MHACC) to host a special event. It was a youth town hall at West Charlotte High School. This wasn't just any event; it was the first of its kind.
The goal? To create a safe space for young people to talk about mental health. DaBaby believes that if we had better resources and more awareness, tragedies like his brother's could be reduced. He wants to break the cycle of mental illness, especially in minority communities.
During the town hall, students got to learn about mental health. They received a Youth Mental Health 101 Resource Guide, co-authored by DaBaby. This guide helps young people cope with mental health issues and practice self-care. DaBaby also had a fireside chat where he shared his own journey of overcoming trauma.
DaBaby's message is clear: let's talk about mental health. Let's make it normal. Let's save lives, one step at a time.
