Rapper Jay-Z's Foundation Teams Up for HBCU Financial Literacy

Can you imagine getting ready for your dream job, but feeling like you're missing some key skills? That's where Jay-Z's Shawn Carter Foundation comes in. They've teamed up with the Wharton School of Business and Toyota North America to launch the Champions for Financial Legacy (CFFL). This program aims to help students at historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) get a grip on their finances before they dive into the workforce. Think of it like a financial toolkit – students will learn about budgeting, understanding credit scores, and even the ins and outs of the stock market. The idea is to give them the confidence and knowledge they need to take control of their money.

Gloria Carter, who co-founded the foundation with her son Jay-Z, is excited about the impact this program could have. She believes it's a step towards empowering communities that are often overlooked. Dr. Keith Weigelt from Wharton agrees, saying that financial literacy can help strengthen the middle class by helping people generate wealth. Starting in the spring of 2025, students at Lincoln University, Norfolk State University, and Virginia State University will be the first to benefit from this program. But the Shawn Carter Foundation has bigger plans. They want to eventually extend this financial literacy boost to even more HBCUs across the country.
