Rapper Young Thug's Surprising Plea Deal
Atlanta, USASaturday, November 2, 2024
Young Thug pled guilty to several charges and received a 40-year sentence, but only five of those will be spent in prison. He's on probation for 15 years and has conditions to meet to avoid serving the remaining 20 years.
Before his sentencing, Young Thug apologized to his family and the court. He expressed regret for his actions and promised to use his experiences to give back to his community positively.
His sentence includes staying out of the Atlanta area for 10 years, except for special events. He must also do community service and avoid contact with gang members.
Prosecutors view this as a step toward accountability for gang activities. The trial has been riddled with issues, including debates on using rap lyrics as evidence and alleged meetings between judges and prosecutors.
Three co-defendants have already pleaded guilty, leaving only two on trial.
