The University of Tennessee is leaving its comfort zone by implementing a bold change in its revenue model. As the program prepares for the potential introduction of revenue sharing, the school is increasing season ticket prices across all sports by 10%. This move, dubbed a "talent fee," is a crucial step towards giving student-athletes a stake in the school's sports revenue. The proposed settlement, set to take effect as early as July 1, will provide a significant sum of backpay to student-athletes. According to the plan, schools will be allowed to pay players up to 22% of the Power Five schools' average athletic revenue in a given year. This move will also eliminate the cap on scholarships, giving athletes the opportunity to receive a more comprehensive education.

Tennessee athletic director Danny White believes that the connection between resource and competitiveness has never been tighter. He emphasized the importance of flexibility in the ever-changing collegiate model, stating that the school must continue to lead the way. The price increase will take effect starting with the 2025 football season and will also apply to single-game tickets, which will see a 4.5% hike. With the athletic department already raking in significant revenue, ranking eighth overall for total operating revenue in the 2022-23 season, it seems that Tennessee is more than willing to share the wealth with its student-athletes. The increased revenue will not only benefit the athletes but also the school as a whole, as it will help to maintain a competitive edge in the collegiate athletic world.
