Rebuilding Gaza: Challenges and Obstacles

The process of rebuilding Gaza faces substantial challenges, including clearing massive amounts of debris, restoring damaged infrastructure, and addressing political roadblocks. The United Nations estimates that the war has left 40 million tons of rubble in Gaza, requiring up to 15 years and $650 million for clearance. Additionally, critical water and sanitation plants have been severely damaged or destroyed, with fuel shortages and displaced workers hindering efforts to restore services.

The territory's sole power plant shut down due to fuel shortages, and more than half of the electrical grid has been destroyed. Wealthy Arab countries have conditions for aid, Israel has security concerns, and there is a lack of local authority willing to manage civilian affairs. Rebuilding homes under current restrictions could take up to 40 years. Aid providers are struggling to bring in basic supplies due to limited entry points and logistical challenges.
