Remembering Auschwitz: 80 Years of Freedom

Eighty years ago today, the world saw a glimmer of hope amidst the darkness as Auschwitz, the infamous Nazi concentration camp in Poland, was liberated. Between 1940 and 1945, over a million people lost their lives here, including Jews, religious leaders, disabled persons, and other innocent victims. This day marks the end of one of history's darkest chapters, where families were torn apart, and lives were brutally ended due to anti-Semitism.

The U. S. joins the global community in honoring the courage of survivors and remembering those who lost their lives. We stand against anti-Semitism and pledge to educate future generations about the horrors of the Holocaust. Despite progress, anti-Semitism still persists. Therefore, we reaffirm our commitment to combating it and promoting respect for all humans. In the years since, the Jewish people have shown remarkable resilience, re-establishing their homeland in Israel. We celebrate their tenacity and reassert our strong ties with Israel. On this National Day of Remembrance, let's honor the victims and the rescuers, and vow to never forget the lessons of Auschwitz.
