This claim was quickly refuted by Republican congressman Chuck Edwards, who called it "outrageous." Edwards, who represents a hard-hit area in North Carolina, pointed out the unity and support his community showed after the hurricane. He also addressed the misinformation spreading online, clarifying that no one can control weather events like hurricanes. Charles Konrad, director of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Southeast Regional Climate Center, confirmed this.

Greene's posts went viral but were widely mocked. A former Democratic congressional candidate, Russell Foster, highlighted the inconsistencies in her claims, asking why such weather control couldn't solve issues like droughts and wildfires. Edwards encouraged people to fact-check information they see online, emphasizing that not everything shared on social media is true. Greene has a history of promoting conspiracy theories, including a past claim involving space lasers and wildfires.
