Rescue Efforts for Missing Fishermen Continue After Stormy Seas Encounter

On Sunday, the US Coast Guard restarted their search for a father and son who didn’t return from a fishing trip off the coast of Maine. Chester and Aaron Barret, fishing aboard their 34-foot boat named “Sudden Impact, ” headed out from Cobscook Bay State Park early Saturday morning and never came back. They were caught in rough seas and lost contact with the shore. When they didn’t return by evening, worried family members alerted the Coast Guard. The search was difficult due to bad weather and low visibility, but multiple agencies joined the effort, including the Maine Marine Patrol and Canadian Coast Guard. The men planned to find shelter in Cutler but couldn’t reach it due to the worsening conditions.

The Coast Guard had to pause their search late on Saturday night due to poor visibility but started again on Sunday with both boats and aircraft. This kind of rescue operation is common in Maine, where fishing can be dangerous due to unpredictable weather.
