Rice Planting Timing: A Battle Against Pests

The rice variety "Jupiter" was more susceptible to weevils compared to "Cheniere". On the other hand, whitehead densities increased with later planting dates. The variety "PVL01" had the highest number of whiteheads. Yields were also lower in late-planted rice. This suggests that while weevils are a consistent threat, stem borer problems increase with later plantings.

The findings highlight the importance of planting dates in managing rice pests. Farmers need to consider both weevils and stem borers when deciding when to plant. Early planting may help reduce stem borer damage, but weevils remain a threat throughout the planting season. It's a delicate balance.
