Running Minecraft on COBOL: A Tech Blast from the Past

Ever thought of playing Minecraft using a language from the 1950s? That's exactly what a modder named meyfa did by creating CobolCraft. COBOL, designed for enterprise IT systems, is still alive today, but finding developers who know it is tough. Meyfa took on the challenge and managed to run a Minecraft server using this old-school language. While CobolCraft doesn't support all Minecraft features yet, it does handle key aspects like infinite terrain generation and player management. Up to 10 players can join, with features like chat and whitelisting available. Simple items like torches and doors work perfectly, but complex interactions aren't supported.

The project is designed for Linux, though a universal version might be possible through Docker. Setting up CobolCraft requires tools like cobc, make, and g++.
