Russia's Military Losses Hit Record Highs in October
Donetsk region, UkraineFriday, November 1, 2024
Both sides in the conflict are tight-lipped about their losses, making it difficult to get an accurate number. Russia's last official update on troop losses was in September 2022, when it reported just under 6, 000 deaths. Ukraine has also not been transparent about its personnel losses.
Russian forces are making slow progress in the Donetsk region, but their tactics are leading to high casualties. The British Army's Chief of the Defence Staff, Admiral Sir Tony Radakin, said in July that it would take five years to replenish the Russian army to its pre-war strength. However, Russia is reportedly able to recruit 30, 000 new soldiers each month, and North Korea is sending around 10, 000 troops to fight alongside Russia.
