In the spring of 2021, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) issued a health advisory for residents on French Island. The worry? Potential contamination of private wells by per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), often called "forever chemicals" because they stick around in the environment for a long time. Campbell residents, especially those in the southern part near the recent Omaha tie fire, were advised to be extra cautious.
Good news, though: the Department of Natural Resources has got your back! If you're a Campbell resident using a private well, you’re eligible for a safe interim alternate drinking water source. The Town of Campbell is making it easy to apply online. Just head to their website: townofcampbellwi.gov/well-water-pfas-information/.
Hey, residents, listen up! While the La Crosse County, DNR, and DHS keep digging into any potential health issues linked to the fire, it’s a good idea to switch to a safer water source. Let’s stay smart and stay safe.
