Sarah McBride Makes History: First Trans Congressperson
Delaware, USAWednesday, November 6, 2024
McBride is a close ally of President Joe Biden, influencing his stance on LGBTQ+ issues since 2006. Their connection deepened when she worked on Beau Biden's attorney general campaign. McBride's memoir, "Tomorrow Will Be Different, " even features a foreword by the president. This memoir tells her story as a transgender rights activist, including her marriage to fellow activist Andrew Cray, who sadly passed away just days after their wedding.
Throughout her career, McBride has broken barriers. In 2012, she made national headlines as a student body president at American University by coming out as transgender in an op-ed. In 2016, she became the first transgender person to speak at a national party convention. Most recently, in 2020, she became the first openly transgender state senator in Delaware.
