Department of Government Efficiency members, saying they can only read, not change or share, any Treasury payment details. This all happened because the group hired to help the Treasury Department save money and cut waste. The judge's order came after union groups sounded the alarm. They are concerned that the Treasury Department was sharing their members' info with a team. The scandal really spilled when Marko Elez, a 25-year-old engineer, got booted from the team. Worse, Elez has a pretty sordid history of racist comments on social media under the name “@nullllptr”. Elez has some serious offensive thoughts and wants to normalize hatred towards people from India. A specific example of his offensive comments is "Just for the record, I was racist before it was cool" and he would not mind if Gaza and Israel were wiped off the map.

The scandal got so big that the White House press secretary had to address it. He is just another casualty of the fact that social media can turn your life upside down. While this classifies Elez as a special government employee, it’s actually a disaster for the Treasury Department’s efforts.
