School Funding Formula Under Fire
California, USASunday, September 29, 2024
The state's Department of Finance, however, maintains that the changes are constitutional and necessary to address the state's $27.6 billion budget deficit. The department argues that the education budget process is complex and that the changes are intended to ensure that schools receive the necessary funding to meet their educational needs.
Despite the controversy, the California Teachers Association has reached an agreement with Governor Newsom to reduce the amount of funding that would be considered previously allocated to schools from $8.8 billion to $6.2 billion. However, the California School Boards Association has refused to back down, claiming that the changes will still have a negative impact on education funding.
