Sci-Fi Surprises: A Tale of Two 2025 Films
The Highs and Lows
2025 was a rollercoaster for sci-fi fans. It brought us both duds and hidden gems. Two movies, in particular, stood out. One was a letdown, and the other was a pleasant surprise.
Tron: Ares - A Boring Ride
The Hype Many people had high hopes for Tron: Ares. They loved the original Tron and its sequel, Legacy. They wanted Ares to be just as good.
The Reality Sadly, it didn't live up to the hype. The story was boring. The main character, played by Jared Leto, wasn't interesting enough. Sure, seeing lightcycles zoom down the freeway was cool. But that wasn't enough to save the movie.
The Problem Tron is about digital aliens, not the kind from outer space. But maybe that's part of the problem. People love exploring new worlds. They want to see things they've never seen before. Ares didn't give them that. It felt dull and uninspired.
Predator: Badlands - A Breath of Fresh Air
The Setting This movie was a breath of fresh air. It's set on an alien planet called Genna. The world is full of strange plants and dangerous creatures. It's beautiful and terrifying at the same time.
The Story The story might not be original. But the setting makes it feel new and exciting.
The Wonder Science fiction doesn't always need alien worlds to be great. But it sure helps. Ares felt boring because it lacked that sense of wonder. Badlands, on the other hand, was full of it. It's not the best Predator movie ever made. But it's definitely the most sci-fi.
